Can anyone tell me the approx cost to digitize & or laser scan a 32 inch hand carved table leg with leaves & vines. Basically looking for the gcode to reproduce a carved leg on the 4th axis.:o
Thanks all!

A photo of the leg showing detail and various views will help get this question answered. Our scanning services start at 100 dollars and only go up depending on the level of detail and other factors. We assume 4th axis parallel finish with an eighth inch taper mill. Detail beyond that escalates the price.

We can also CAM the part for you with various containment fields and engraving features to make the machine time a little longer and the hand tooling time a little less. In this case, we Code from Rotary Axis Centerline as Z zero. Bit offsets are the customer responsibility and should be at least 1 and 3/4 inches from the tool holder. Patterns and stock sizes also come into play. Proprietary license of the finished leg also has its price. In most cases the work we do becomes our property to use or resell unless you purchase the proprietary license. In that case, the file is yours to do as you please.

In addition, we will often change certain features on customer samples to protect them and our company from trademark and patent infringement. (Example) Kagen Style furniture verses actual Kagen furniture. There is a big difference and if we wanted to we could very easily counterfeit the originals and sell them as Kagen Style. It is bad business and is something you should be aware of.

I realize this seems very NAPSTER like, however, as the owls video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xtd-xFukZQ4 demonstrates, I now have the ability to steal from the Chinese and produce high quality carvings based on the sweat equity of some kid in the Shanghai region of China.

What goes around comes around! They have been doing it to America for years.

I like the idea of taking back from the chinese. They do it to the US manufacturers every day.

A fellow furniture maker asked the question regarding scanning the leg. He wanted a local wood carver to make the original leg. So no pic. Something along the lines of the Mastercam ad. with the leaf & vines wrapped around a 3" dia X 32" long leg. The legs would be turned on Russ's Camaster recoil.:o
No fourth axis on our SS.
