Jim, I tried to do it in Aspire (version 1 demo). The problem I saw confirmed what you said. If you try to scale the multiple offset rectangles, the space between the rectangles will get bigger or smaller. You can try selecting one of the vectors and using transform(shortcut 'T'), from there you can tell it the new size, unlocking the XY so you can make the door taller or shorter without making it wider too. Make sure the anchor is selected right in the set size box, so the vector grows/shrinks in the right direction.
Of course, you have to do some math this way, since you can't change them all at the same time. Unfortunately, I couldn't get Aspire to let me node edit more than one vector at a time. Also, even if you could, I am not sure how even once you selected all the nodes, how you could move them exact amount (say, 3"). In something like Rhino or other true CAD programs, this type of thing is no problem at all. I can select all the nodes I need at once using a window select and use the keyboard to type in exactly what distance I need. I'll post a pic.
