View Full Version : Recoil Problem

Okay I made my first blank and mounted it on the recoil. I moved the cutting bit to the center line of the recoil and zeroed "XY" Zeroed Z to the highest point of the blank. Did a measure "T1" to the lowest point of the blank. With the touch pad. The blank is 8 sided so I measured to one of the flats. I did a Touch Top to the highest point of the blank. Again with the touch pad. BUT when I opened the file and tried to run it the spindle turns on and I get a Z soft-limit error. I entered "G49Z" and it turned off the limits but as soon as I run the file again I get the same error.
I am attaching the "PP" file I am using and the file I am trying to cut. I did download the "PP" from the Forum and placed it in the Aspire "Open Application data folder. Do I need to move the "PP" file or a copy of this file to my winCNC computer?
On my winCNC computer when I loaded the .TAP file I was getting a Syntax error. I seen that the "PP" had a "GetTool" line, so I did go into the "PP" and [Bracket out] "the get tool line." This seemed to correct the Syntax error but then I started getting the error I posted about above.
Thanks in advance for all help and suggestions and I hope Everyone has had a Good New Year.

Neal,
Add an L21 command at the beginning of your program and anywhere there is a tool change. This should get you going.
I am not sure why you are using a G49Z command as in ISO G code this code command cancels tool offset.
On a Fanuc if G49 code is not used properly it will produce an over travel error.

Thanks Guy
I will give that a try. I am just not sure I am using the correct "PP" I have a single spindle with a recoil. The "PP" I am using I think is for an "ATC"

No luck yet. Can not get machine to NOT exceed z boundary:.( when trying to run rounding tool path.

neal what PP are you using?

See My first post in the thread.
Thanks
CAMaster_wrapX2A_ATC.pp it is the only Wrap PP in my aspire file, even though I do not have an ATC. I did go into the file and bracketed out the ATC but did no good. I do beleive that the PP is where my problem is.
Giving up for tonight. Did get some table rail moldings cut but no Recoil cutting today.

Joey not sure if you saw the update on this post.
I am wondering when the forum updates to the "No new Posts"? I have posted stuff and it seems like they disappear from the "New Post" area soon there after.
Thanks.
PS> Looked again this AM and all of the "PP" in my software are ATC>

Neil,
I had to go into my WINcnc ini file and lower the z limit to allow the spindle to lower far enough to do work on the rotary.
Do'nt for get to changeit back or you will hack thru your table [lol]
Also I found it best to zero your Z to the CENTER of your part in your CAD/CAM and set your Z zero to the center of your lathe before chucking up your blank.
Are you using Aspire?

Hey Joey
Just ended getting helped by JohnnyCNC, on Skype, and he has me "Air cutting" with my recoil. [fantastic] (Learned several computer programs today!)
He worked with me from appx 17:30 until now and I am up and running. I can not Thank Him enough. [da man]
Thank you for asking him to reach out to me and getting my "Molly" twisting. He is a Fantastic teacher and I can only hope to get .25 as good as he is with WinCNC.
Again Thanks for your Help Johnny, Joey and all the CAMheads who Helped![clap]
Looking forward to learning more at Spring Camp at McGrews!

You're welcome, but thank me after you've cut something other than air Neal. [fingers]
Then I'll know we accomplished something.

Neal thanks for the update. I was in a dentist chair all am and still having a hard time talking. Glad to see you got her going round and round.
I guess I will keep Johnny around another day or so. [lol]
Out of all the good things this forum has done, my friendship with Johnny is one of the best. Some times he keeps me company via the phone when I work late. He is a good egg and has learned a lot about cnc by crashing his. [moon]
Thanks for the help Johnny.

Johnny and Joey,
Had Molly running the Recoil last night and She created her first "RSO" (Round Shaped Object). I would have posted pics but lets just say it was early this AM when I finally stopped watching her cut. [lol]
So today is going to be long.:.(
Will post pics when I have something worthy of posting.
Thanks again for all the help.
PS Johnny in Aspire does the "Feed Rate=Recoil Rotational Speed"? or should I just go into the text file and bump up "F" each time? Going to work on setting "R" in the WinCNC file this weekend.

Neal,
I suggest that you creat a set of Recoil tools that you'll only use for the Recoil. Just copy the ones there and rename them to something like "R.25 ballnose"..., R for Recoil. Then set the feedrate to something like 20000 for THOSE tools. Remember, feedrate for the Recoil is in degrees per minute, not inches per minute.
Then when you do a recoil cut, select one of your recoil tools. For everything else, choose a regular tool.
If you do it this way, Y will just be the default feedrate and A will take the feedrate you set on the tool.
If you have any questions, just email me or tell me on here and I'll try to explain it better.
Oh yeah..., glad to hear everything worked out ok.

Hey Johnny wanted to let you know "Molly's" Recoil is working better then I can say. Now for the next question?
When I use the Recoil I center the bit and run M37Z0 to zero (IE Measure T1 correct? without the touch pad) If so then when it finishing roughing the blank and I want to replace the .25 bit with a .125 bit, Do I need to remove the project and rezero to the center with the new bit installed or does it not matter? ( I know it DOES matter) So is there a way to zero with the project in the Recoil? I have seen about using a fixed point and Macros and Offsets ect, but I am not finding any real references to doing that anywhere. I believe that I can measure to a point above the heads stock face plate and zero to that point but I am not sure where to enter that value or how to enter it? So if you have the time and do not mind any help will be well received.[fantastic]

Is this the first time you tried to use the Recoil option? If so I had a similar issue and Johnny CNC was able to help me. Contact Joey and he should be able to help you also.

Rick, something is putting that M70 in your code. Can you post your pp here? I doubt that's the problem but it could be.

I am using the Camaster-wrapX2A atc(inch)(*.tap) PP
Is this the right one ?
JohnnyCNC

Rick, I don't have that one. If you can, copy it and email it to me at cncjohnny@gmail.com. I'll check it out for you.
I'm pretty sure the problem is the M70.1. Not sure what it is, but I don't think it belongs there. I'm guessing something is calling a macro that it shouldn't be calling.
One more thing Rick, send me your tap file as well, if it's in the file, it's in the pp.
