this is the new dust foot i did today, thomas you were working on one of these?
there is a photo of the old one as well
Hey Jim,
I got some acrylic and made a foot and it works Great!!
I have to figure out how I'm going to hold the hose as the machine moves along the table. I have the dust collector blower on wheels so I can wheel it outside the garage. Want to any dust from the blower far away, plus it frees up some space in the garage. I'll post a pic of the setup once I get things in order.
Thanks for the pics of the shoe.

strip brush, i used 1/8 or 3/16 nylon the horsehair is too stiff
http://www.mcmaster.com/
page 1227 for both the nylon strip and the aluminum holder
the foot on the left is my older one and did not provide enough chm's for dust removal the brush on it is from home depot in the door sweep section and will provide a 1" sweep well!! and cheap!

no, I cut relatively fast and my whole shop was a mess!! wow. I thought I could follow it with my 4" dust collection hose, but it overwhelmed me and I had to leave the room and let it finish. I came back to a shop covered in 'disassembled' MDF.

A picture of my dust shoe on my home made router table. It is a piece of plywood with brush and holder from McMaster Carr. It is called conveyor brush if I remember correctly. I use a 2 1/2 inch hose going to my 4 inch dust system.

angus i sent the macmaster carr numbers for the strip brush and holder, if you find the local glass company who sell and cuts plastic they will usually have a cut bin of off fall, you can get lucky and buy small pieces of clear plexi
jim
the part numbers from mcmaster carr in atlanta for the 2" brush strips i use in my dust foot are as follows
2" tall nylon strip #74405t3 1/8" x2" brush 4.29 per foot
aluminum holder #8813t496 1/8" aluminum holder 6.65 per 6' section
you can go to macmaster carr on line and enter "strip brush" and it will take you to the brush page, thier phone number is on the site and we get all of our stuff next day

THanks Jim, got that yesterday.....and have loads of 1/2 plexi here in the shop.
So looking at the pictures it seems that the best place to collect the dust is in front of the router??? Not behind ???

I think the arrangement of in front of the router is just convenience. I hadn't thought about putting it behind but as long as nothing gets in the way it should work fine. I have the brush on my dust foot so that I can slide the one toward me off so I can see the bit to set x y and z then slide it back in place.

This is a really lousy video of a shoe I made two years ago. I don't have a video camera. Just used my old digital camera. Anyhow you can probably get the idea. Just a week or so ago (2 years later) I rebuilt it and made it better. You can see it at my blog ProjectCNC.wordpress.com. (See improved vac shoe or dust shoe). Thanks
I hope it's okay for me to post here. I'm not a CAMaster owner.
