I have been rebuilding parts for a canoe that I sold and built over 20 years ago. And found a neat trick in Aspire for doing the thwarts. Since the thwart is curved on both sides I did a half section in Aspire, then machined it out and flipped it over and did the other side. It took 23 minutes per side to do it. A whole lot faster than how I did it 20 plus years ago. I need to decrease the thickness between the sides a bit maybe .03" should be strong enough to hold every thing together while machining.

What size bit are you using if it is a 1/4 then you could use this bit to trim them out. I do this when I have to leave a skin on my parts.

You can also draw in your own tabs by drawing a rectangle that bridges from the part to the waste and then making it a component that is say .25 thick.

Do this by using the create shapes from vectors tool in the modleing section.

Just a thought,

Good idea[fantastic] I will try it on the next 2 thwarts that I need to build for this canoe.

I just finished putting on the last coat of spar varnish on the canoe. It's done!
Finish work always takes the most time. Designing and cutting out the gunwales, thwarts, decks and rope holders only took the better part of a day, but fastening and finishing the above items on to the canoe was over a week. Working on this canoe that I used to own brought back lots memories of canoeing trips with my family. I am planning on building another one next year to take the grand kids canoeing.

When people ask me what my CNC can cut, I say everything.
This is just another part of the "everything".
Great work.

I installed Aspire 3 a few days ago. Some of the new tools like the distort feature are giving me some new ideas:D for future projects.
