View Full Version : Is this possible with Aspire?

I've slowly been migrating my birdhouse manufacturing process over to the Stinger II. I've got all the parts programmed in Aspire except for the cedar roof shingles. Currently I rip cedar into strips and then, using jigs on the bandsaw, I cut and shape the shingles. The second attached picture is my birdhouse. I have yet to figure out a process to machine them on the CNC.

However, I am wondering if I could machine a simulated shingled roof, like the one on the first birdhouse. If you look closely, the roof is concave which complicates matters. I have limited modeling experience in Aspire, so I figured one of the experts could let me know if it is possible.

Thanks
-Joe

Rhino 4.0. Easy as hell. Aspire should do it as well. If not let me know the dimensions of your shingles, how many inches or half inches to the weather and the number of courses plus the pitch or angle you are trying to achieve and the arc.

When milling an item such as this program for an 1/8 ball mill with a tight step over, about 10 to 15 percent but then mill it with an 1/8 inch end mill in your machine. You will get a crisper look where the shingles meet each other.

Jim,

I am glad you build cabinets, Your roofs will leak with your shingles lined up like that! [lol]

Joe,

Just emailed you a compressed file and an uncompressed STL model of the concave roof.

Guy, that is exactly what I am trying to achieve. So lets say i needed a 10" x 10" panel with a 1" arc or concave. I am flexible with the shingle size, so maybe 1 1/4" diameter with half being exposed to the weather.

I got it yet i will need a few minutes to figure it out a bit better

it has been a long day !! and the wife wants a new roof !! what a reality check, aspire will do the concave and the back cut to create the full arc, yet with guy on board i am taking the rest of the night off !
