It's time again to replenish my favorite woods to work with, cherry, red oak,and cypress. I've been scouring the web for a great deal but have not found one yet that is close to me.
While doing this I ran upon an old article that I thought some of you might be interested in. "How to buy hardwood?

Rick, you may want to check out Woodworkers Source out of AZ. They have a great selection of the standards and some really nice exotics as well. When you buy craft packs (10 or 20 bd ft) they ship for a flat $20 east of the Mississippi, free otherwise). Here is a link to the site. I've used them and have been quite happy with the service and the quality of the lumber. Happy hunting!

Thanks Joe, I will definitely check this out.
I am leaning towards driving a hundred miles to Brazos Forest Products in Denham Springs right now.

Fortunately I can drive 20 min. to get anything I need from the Buffalo one but I usually get my hard woods from Niagara lumber which is 20 min. in the other direction they also ship if you need to.

Rick ..... Cypress Sam, on Bayou Bartholomew, just west of Dermott, Arkansas saws cypress. It's not that far from you, well, relatively speaking. 870-866-7741
OR, I can pick you up whatever you need at White's Lumber in Pamplico SC, when I'm on my way to LA in March

Tom, appreciate the info. Advantage does have some good prices. Good to hear from you. Hope all is going well.

TR, thank you as well. Before you make your trek down here I will be in touch.
By the way, I use your texture technique here and there. People love it! I am grateful for all you do.

Most of the major "candy stores" will ship and many have very knowledgeable folks to help insure what's picked for your order is to your specifications. But you need to ask about that to be sure. My favorite place for extraordinary lumber is Hearne Hardwoods in Oxford PA. While I'm fortunate to be only an hour away, they ship to folks all over and supply some of the finest craftsmen out there.
