  • How do I set/reset the Park position?

    Severe newby here.

Just hooked up the power on the cobra elite with wincnc software and starting to press a few buttons!

The Park position appears to be the same as the initialize position. I would like to change the park position to a different position. How do I do that?

    Thanks

The park position is a setting in WinCNC's configuration file. You'll need to edit a copy of that file (never edit the original...keep a pristine copy of that somewhere) by putting in the coordinates that you prefer for the park location.

But here's a suggestion...now that you have power applied to your new machine, schedule your orientation call with Camaster support. They can help you with these adjustments during that interaction as they use TeamViewer to control your system. If your system isn't online, they can still walk you through it verbally. I suggest this because messing with the WinCNC configuration file(s) isn't something to take lightly when you're not familiar with them.

        Park location

It is an easy move but not one i would do without some experience

Jim is right on his suggestion. I park mine out on the table at like x12 y 10

Respect your wincnc file it can mess stuff up quick if you do not understand it. You will learn it but for right now get the training then we can show you how to save a master copy

I have a master copy saved then a copy with revision date and what i did on each revision

once a few preferences are set you will leave it alone forever !

Park position is usually put in the park macro as XY coords, or as one of the stored positions. It is made to be changed by the customer as most everyones needs are different

For myself I like the park position at x0y0 for the reason that when you are ready to restart it does not take as long to initialize . Servos need to be initialized anytime you resume after turning off power.

I set the spindle rpm to 10000 and turn the spindle on to warm up while it initializes. I don't care how long it takes to initialize, because the spindle needs time to warm up anyway.

I use the warm-up macro which includes both initialization and spindle warm up automagically...

                  Here's a trick I do sometimes:
                  - Draw a dot/ small circle, etc. where you want "park" on your CAD file.
                  - When you CAM the file, make that "park" dot your last toolpath.
                  - The machine will do all the cutting then run that last toolpath in seconds and stop right there.

I do the same as Jim with the warm up macro. I did have Michael modify my Vcarve post processor to automatically move the gantry to the rear of the table at the end of a tap file.
