  • KRS Keypad Support

The KRS Keypad is a very effective way to use your cnc machine away from the control computer. It hooks up via USB and has a 15’ lead. This extra reach allows the user to get close to his cnc without dragging along a key board that is more susceptible to dust than the KRS. This unit has 20 buttons that is preset from factory to be used on CAMaster CNC routers. It is ideal for the Stinger line but rigid and functional enough for the Cobra. The fact that it is inexpensive makes it a great add-on at time of purchase. If you already have your cnc this unit can be bought form US Router Tools HERE.

The KRS Keypad is open format and can be customized by the free software that can be downloaded HERE. The Keypad can be used in any program that uses Windows. There are many uses of this Keypad, customers have used them for hot keys in design software titles like Aspire. You can even piggy back them and have 2 keypads with different setups that do not conflict with one another.

This forum is for the support of the keypad from KRS (Kevin Stoops) & US Router Tools (Joey Jarrard). All topics should be focused on this use and support of the Keypad.

    KRS Keypad

Can anyone tell me if the KRS keypad can be ordered with the keys in a vertical layout vs horizontal?

Also, if I have a recoil lathe, should I order the 30 key version?
Thanks...the KRS looks to be my next addition to my Stinger.

I think mine came with a label insert for both horizontal and vertical.

The keypad does not care if you hold it horizontal or vertical. The thing you have to keep in mind is that X and Y buttons may need to be swapped depending on how you hold it. They come default as vertical.

        20 vs 30 button:
The 30 is the Aluminum version only, 20 is both Nylon or Aluminum.

There is a new insert maker for the 30 since it is a little narrower for the buttons.

The buttons can be programmed for any command you want to program in it. The new keypads supporting 63 keystrokes per button. So for rotary all you need to do is assign the A-left and A-right where you want.

Here is a link to the keypad types and more videos on my page. Each is a couple minuets long.

US Router tools is where you get them.

            Kevin,
Thanks so much for quick response. I kind of assumed that position (vertical vs horizontal) was a personal preference, but I was not sure if there were different keycovers that needed to be ordered for my preference...or does the program allow you to print your own keypad buttons labels? Sorry to be so dense....

Kevin has on his site i do believe the image to download and change to your needs. you can then print out your custom button setup. i would suggest you having it laminated so it will stand up to some use as well as make it easy to slide into the unit, it can be a tight fit and just a piece of paper would not fair to well.

              hope this helps

The keypad has been in testing for another vertical market, all seems good. It has not been in the CNC arena yet. Not what I want, but we are working with MicroSoft "new" method of low power Bluetooth communication. It is not as easy as sticking a chip on the current product for BLE. We could but I want the best of the best. It is planned to be both 20 and 30 button in Aluminum.

Microsoft has changed the way they talk and allow you to talk and discontinued the .NET so we are using the new method. This all has to do with the end user being able to customize the keypad only. The keypad side of the project is complete.

In the end this has take a lot longer than I wanted but the product will be very stable, customizable, and will talk to almost everything that is BLE.

Thanks for the update Kevin. The BLE updates are undoubtedly time consuming. Looking forward to the keypad when you have 'em. cheers!

CAMaster won't sell me a 30 key version with my machine. Would I be able to get the custom CAMaster macros if I buy the 30 key version from US Router Tools instead of the 20 key version from CAMaster?

I’m loving the 30 key keypad. It’s really cool being able to customize keys.

I bought a 30 key pad to use with my Stinger 1 a while back, and most of the keys don't do anything. The x,y,z keys do work, and that was what I wanted most, so I never tried to program the others.

Today I tried to get it into configuration mode, but it gives a single beep and isn't detected by the configuration program. In note pad, the x,y,z keys do see to have codes that get entered.

Is there a way to program it so the laser on/off and the .001"/.01"/fast/slow... keys will work with my computer? It seems like there are custom templates, but I can't even get it into configuration mode, so I'm not sure how to update it.

                              Thanks,
                              Todd
