In the real world I am better known for my stained glass than CNC work.
I started my business 40+ years ago by making small stained glass gifts for friend and family.
It soon blossomed into new stained glass windows and repairs.
Over that time my focus has been church work.
Having worked in about 1/2 of the US and several countries abroad it became clear to me that I was running out of churches.
While working on a redesign of a church sanctuary I found I needed to reproduce a very ornate crown molding.
That was the beginning of my journey into the world of CNC.
You can read more about my story via the Vectric Case study.

    I now have a 4' X 8' Cobra X3 which was originally just a single spindle.
After a now infamous fire with the Cobra, I took Jim McGrew’s advice and upgraded to the X3.

Most of my off time is spent developing a new venture,,,3-D modeling for other people.
Some of that work can be seen here.

Here’s a few pictures of what I’ve been making.
The first frame, exterior shot, was made for a church in Iowa.
It was made from 1/4 sawn white oak.
              Frame size is 169” X 159” X 7-3/4” thick
Parts were cut with the Cobra.

Second set of picture is a frame we will be installing next week.
              Made from sapele.
              Frame size is 65” x 121” x 8” thick.

              The machine worked real good.

Now before anyone says anything about the first frame not be symmetrical,, let me say that the original stained glass was not made correctly and we were not permitted to adjust anything.
I sent shop drawings to the GC and to the client for their approval.
They approved the drawings,,,loved the finished product and we got paid...It doesn’t take much to make me happy.....

                Awesome work Michael.
I had to look at the window for a minute to see what wasn't symmetrical. I finally noticed it LOL
I suspect it drove you nuts every time you looked at it but most likely very few people going into the church will ever notice it .

Here is a shot of Michael with his Cobra X3 when I came out to visit on Nov 15th. Big thanks for sharing his time with me. He showed me his shop and projects along with giving insight on how to make aged gold paint using silver paint and shellac, how to prevent gold leaf adhesive sticking using potato slices, showed me puzzle frame joints, and how to start fires using a Cobra plus a few more things. I also got a look at his improvised dust collection on his Cobra.

While working in Iowa recently I went to get my hair cut,,,,just a trim,,,,,
The girl didn’t understand that I just wanted it “cleaned up “

In frustration I said,,,” Cut it the way you think I should have it “””

Well, being that’s it’s mostly farmland there,,,that's what I got....
                            Where’s my John Deere..??? LOL

At least it will grow back..

Michael ..... join the club. LOL
My wife cuts my hair because the local barber ( my uncle) talks about politics while the clippers are buzzing & I don't hear very well. Then he turns the chair around & says "what do you think?". I have no friggin' idea what the Hell he was talking about ..........
Anyway, last haircut ........( a note .... I always want my hair cut a lot shorter than the missus likes it) she fires up the clippers & takes one big swipe up the back. Then " Oh Rodger ....... I forgot to put on the attachment" . She's almost in tears while I'm laughing my arse off ...... the longest hair there was about .032". So, she had to cut the rest to match. We were going out that night ( very unusual because I like to be in bed by 8:30) so she was really mad at herself, in spite of me telling her that I already have a wife & have no need to look good. Even if I LOVED my new haircut.
For anyone who doesn't have a good imagination ....... this haircut looked like a reverse Mohawk.
So Michael .... it's just under 8 hours to here. I'll tell Sharon to get the clippers out 'cause you're on your way.......
