Finally got around to flattening some slabs. I sawmilled these from a large limb that fell at my son's house. Used a whiteside 4 wing spoil board bit about 1/8 inch per pass a little lite sanding and they were ready for finish.

The wood, design and execution are all really nice. I use my machine often to flatten slabs and tops. I have found that 300 or so ipm with a 2" cutter with carbide cutters does a nice job (50%) stepover. I adjust the rpm until it sounds/looks good.Ray Melton

Outstanding work. One of the reasons I purchased my Stinger was to flatten slabs for furniture. I had a nice black walnut slab that I wanted for a bench but my when my Stinger was delivered first time I had to send back for shipping damage. I decided to use my 22-44 Jet drum sander to flatten since on side was flat. It took a long time and since it was curved I had to make a jig to go into the drum sander at the right angle each pass. I attached pics but I think they pale in comparison to what G Hussey created. The legs are cherry wood. FWIWKeith Hyde, Winchester, VA

Thanks guys. I've had those slabs laying around for several years could not come up with an idea for legs to make a table so I just squared the ends and mitered them at a 45. Was not sure how it would look but went for the waterfall look turned out good since the grain matched.
Ray don't think I can run that fast only have a 3.5 hp router stalled it the first time I tried so slowed it down to 100.
Keith I have the same drum sander you did a good job flattening that slab nice looking bench.

Absolutely beautiful table. I'm not that talented, I went the easy way on these two, make the machine do all the work. The Maple one has a Walnut star inlay, the Walnut table has an epoxy star. :D
