  • Brass inlay on Corian

So a friend of mine has a daughter that plays the bassoon. He wanted a inlay of a bassoon. It was a bit time consuming since there aren't a whole lot of quality bassoon pics online. Probably spent 2-3 hours just doing the vectors. I tried to convince him into personalizing it but he said no.

Bob, I'm having a tough time keeping up on your designs, first the epoxy inlay in wood, then epoxy inlay in Corian, now Brass inlay on Corian.

    I just can't keep up....

Just for something a little different how about showing up something you made that didn't come out great.....

Seriously, thanks for sharing. I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Thanks, I've got a few things I need to do. I still haven't made my wife anything and she get a bit P.O.'ed when I keep making things for other people.

So Bob, do you sand it down by hand (random orbital) or do you use a drum sander?
I'm sure once you have the brass sanded down flush with the Corian the Corian is dulled out. What level of sanding grit do use to get the Corian to shine again?

I use a Festool 150 sander. I started with 100/220/400/800/1000 then went with polishing compounds 5000 and 8000. It shines up very nice.

The entire process on this probably took about 15 minutes. It polishes up pretty quick.

Have you tried the Mirca Abralon pads for polishing?

Ok have to look into those. Some of my Festool pads look really similar, almost sponge like.
