You can't design enough to eliminate it either but OSHA sure thinks you can.

The last comment on that video.

"Back in the day kids took everything seriously because they saw their ADHD friends die. Sure momma cried and everyone turned out at the funeral but behind closed doors every daddy out there was glad that fool didnt procreate with his daughter. Fast forward 80 years and we shelter the little shi_s as best we can and are shocked and horrified when they manage to do something unexpected and sue everyone we can think of because we put so much work into making sure the retard lived as long as he did"

Was he trying to loosen the chuck and somebody turned it on or was he really trying to see if he was stronger than the machine?

          Either way, wow!

I have seen those machines do some real nasty damage to people in my my shop of over 10 years and this equipment does not forgive anyone not paying attention. Even seen pictures tooooooooo graphic to place in this website so please be careful and don't let Darwin prevail , but I feel I come from an age group & time where Dad made sure we paid attention back in the day or it was a trip behind the wood shed.

Yep. I got hit hard in the gut by a chuck wrench once, I never let that happen again. Damn lucky it didn't hit me in the face!

I don't believe even myself with no sleep,no coffee, and no clue would have turned on a machine with the chuck wrench in place however I have learned to keep a CLOSE eye on the placement of the all but powerful decimal point! When using larger bits .010 is your friend not .100 so I will make a personal note to self on this one. Over 40+ years I still have all my fingers & toes so I figure I'm still doing something right.

That video should be shown in every shop class in America on the first day (well, if we actually still had shop classes).

I'm the only guy I know with a guard and a splitter on his tablesaw. Most guys hate them, but I hate the emergency room even more. Your SawStop won't prevent kickback.

The good news is that our CNC machinery does a lot of the dangerous stuff for us. Back when I was apprenticing, we did drop cuts on the table saw all the time, thinking back I can't believe how stupid that was. I made hundreds of crosscuts against the fence without a sled. Now I turn on the tablesaw only a handful of times a week.
