Thanks so much for the advice, makes sense. Do you use 1/4" bits on cutting out shapes? I thought 1/8" was the best but does it depend on the size of the cutout?

I use 1/4 and 3/8 depending on the inside corner side on the shapes I'm cutting. If I don't have any inside corners or any that are small enough to worry about I'll run a 3/8" compression bit every chance I get. When you get to a bit in that range your next big area of concern is the amount of hold down you have and then finally the machine (stiffness, gears, etc.) comes into play.
