Thanks for your input. After looking around the Internet, this may be Indian Rosewood. The color and grain pattern is very close and it did originally come from a Luthier in South Carolina....

I tried a quick change Musclechuck for a while and found that accuracy was a problem by a few hundredths of an inch. Using the same bits I went back to the factory chuck and the problem was solved....
