I would just glue the spoilboard down with...

I would just glue the spoilboard down with regular pva wood glue. When it gets to the point of risking cut through, machine it off and glue down new ones.

Yes to the fan. It's like a cpu fan with no curve.

V carves are decent things to start one. Just carve so names or phrases. Spray black paint all over it and sand the top clean after it dries.
