I figure if it comes on when I flip the ON switch that there's a pretty good reason it needs to stay on. My shop is not quiet either but the noise doesn't bother me one bit and I have a 5Hp spindle...

The "leads" and "ramps" options on Vectric CAD/CAM products are a tremendous help with coming up with a great cut strategy. There's not much I cut that doesn't utilize one or both of these options.
