I think I understand what you're trying to do. I suspect the smooth bottom is why your run times are so long...... you have to use a small stepover. That's where my checkered texture come in .......

You don't need a lot of pocket depth to add dimension. On a sign that's say 4sq', 1/4" is plenty..... a rule of thumb? The bigger the sign, the deeper pockets...

The texture is sandblasted, but Jemima cut the sandmask, the profile, & the pocket for the pictorial. I have no idea how I got along without a CNC for all those years. Jemima will be 10 years old...
