Default Simple Inlay

A local young woodworker has been having me do some carving for adding to some of his work pieces. The most recent was a simple meat and cheese board for a family. He wanted their name inlay on the board. All I had to do was the carving. Kind of nice simple project.
  • 90 degree V
  • Christmas time font has a good width to work with, at least at this size. Text is 10 by 3 inches
  • Female max depth less than 0.2
  • Male has 0.050 gap underneath so male carving set at a start depth of 0.15, cut depth of 0.050

Walnut turned out to be a nice clean cut so it all glued together nicely with no gaps.

Then, milled off the top until within a few thousandths of the board height, and sanded just a little.

Really nice inlay result there!!!! Being able to mill off the excess is a nice thing for larger items like this since the bandsaw isn't going to work for that.

Very nice work, Charlie! I haven't created any designs with inlays yet but your approach has me thinking about a few possibilities.
