Default Craigslist vice score

Had to share this with some guys who can appreciate this, I am truly elated, this is perhaps the best $30 I have ever spent, yes, $30 ! USA made 4" and looks like it has been fully restored, easily worth $100-$150. Built like a tank, I mounted it next to my 6" for now, will eventually find another spot for it.

Lady seemed surprised when I didn't try to talk down the price, I almost felt guilty paying so low but its in good hands now !

They are worth the cost, the cheap cast ones available from box stores today crack with the greatest of ease, I have snapped jaws off of them with just hand pressure. Happened to my made in China 6" Craftsman just trying to straighten out a bent bolt. Once they break and you can see the exposed metal its easy to tell how cheaply made they are. They are suitable for light duty, casual work and not much else.
Black one is a Yost and my new red one is an Athol, both USA made, both built to last, I doubt if you could damage them with arm pressure if you tried.

Nice pickup. I scored a right brand new 6" Wilton last year for $40 at an auction. A very handy tool to have around.

I'm thinking there is a joke here somewhere about the spouse complaining about your vices.

I can appreciate it. I've got two vices in the garage and one in the basement.
The first one I ever got was from an auction, the rest from Sears.

I've also looked for anvils in the past. A machinist friend of mine gave me a piece of railroad tie that usually works for my purposes. When I took a welding class in 2007, the school bought a new anvil for like $700.

I wasn't even looking for a vice, I tend to randomly browse the craigslist tool category from time to time just looking for things I do or do not really need.
