Default Adding some dimension easily

I learned this wee trick 3 years ago, from an old friend & fellow signmaker. I was complaining about people wanting very small writing on their signs, for stuff that was secondary. . . . . i.e. "Established 1987"
He said .....
As long as it's in a colour that's not really dark, V-carve it with a 90* bit, & you don't need to paint it a different colour, because part of a V-carved letter is always "in shadow" & will appear darker.
Example attached. The dates are done this way.
Another good way to embellish a sign without adding work, is .....
If you have a sign with a raised border, & don't want to paint a "hi-lite stripe", just do another V-carved profile inset about .25" from the outer edge of the pocket, & paint it all the same colour. Yes, it will be visible, albeit subtle.
Sometimes I paint this V-carved channel, but you don't have to.
