Default ATC valve

Have the PT404 w/ATC, 5kw HSD spindle. lately, on occasion, the air valve which picks-up and releases the tool holder, has begun to "flutter" when releasing. it does release the tool holder fine, it just flutters like it is opening and closing very rapidly. and, it does this only when releasing, not picking up the tool holder.

nearest i can tell, is that the air valve is located internal to the assembly, possibly in the black box attached to the front of the spindle, see pics, since that is where the air lines are attached. fwiw, air is run through a refrigerated air dryer, and appears to be about 98 psi at the CAMaster regulator. System Requirements call for 100 psi, so i will crank up the compressor a little to see if that helps...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have not contacted CAMaster yet. Thanks in advance.

I have been on many forums some for 25+ years) and this one (15 years) and have never heard of this,, mine has only acted up when air pressure is low or my valve has moved. Garry helped me reset the In and out of Pressure a good 6 years ago and I have had no prob since

The valves that operate the spindle are in the air line before the spindle. There is just wiring in that black box. You can pull the air lines and check with a regular air blower that has a rubber tip. That will tell you if the spindle is ok or if it is the valve in the air line. One line is for cooling air and the other releases the tool holder with air pressure.

I have seen a few where the electrical switch (green button) have failed.

The valves that control my ATC stuff is mounted on the right side of my Z axis if you are standing at the control box. There are quick connect valves on a valve block with small diameter hoses. Trace the clear air hose back from the spindle to the valves. One of my valves came a little loose at one point and needed to be tightened back down to the valve block. If the seal isn't great you should hear air leaking out and that could cause the issue you are seeing. I believe all I had to do to tighten them up was snug down a couple of phillips head screws.
