Default Which lathe chuck to use for Stinger I

My Stinger I 24 just arrived with a lathe. I am helping my daughter with her science project to make a Saturn V rocket model which is due this Wednesday.
The model requires using a lathe, rounds a 3.5 inch square stock, then using a molding profile to carve out the main body of the rocket. I ordered a lathe chuck from Amazon yesterday, but not sure if it will serve this purpose. Chuck ordered:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Is this chuck appropriate for this application and the stinger? If not, what lathe chuck should I get?

Thanks

You can use any quality lathe chuck that has the correct threading for your Recoil lathe's spindle, but it must be one that can lock. The Recoil lathe on your Stinger is very different than a traditional lathe and can move in both directions. It's not really designed for "spinny" turning...it's an ornamental lathe for producing complex contours and for cutting 3D images mapped to a "circular" object. It should be able to accomplish what you want, but there's a learning curve here...getting it done by Wednesday if you have no experience with the Recoil system, let alone your new CNC machine is, um...going to be a challenge. Again, it's not like a regular lathe and you do not use normal turning tools.

That chuck should work fine. I have a Nova chuck on my SR24, very similar to what you have ordered and it hasnt let me down yet. Looking firward to seeing your Saturn V model! Good luck.

Thanks for looking at that chuck! I just received it and tried on the lathe. It worked! Busy night tonight, she can't wait to get started.

We were able to get the lathe running last night without any problem. It did took awhile to get the saturn V body made, but the chuck worked perfectly.

Terrific looking job there! We have never started our rotary as of this time. I want to take the time to one day but it keeps getting put off for more pressing things that keep the lights on.....
