Default Aluminum Finish

I received my Cobra earlier this year and its been a crash course for sure. I've started making aluminum parts now. I think its doing ok but I really want to improve the surface finish. I'm using a 1/4 spiral O flute with zn coating. I do not have a mister. My vac does a good job keeping the part free of chips until I cut deep slots. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks

I would recommend a smaller stepover, like maybe 10% and that will help with the tool marks. I use a Mister here at the shop as well.

Leave about .005-.010 material at the bottom and try a finish pass with a smaller stepover as Cody recommends. I don't have a mister either but WD40 works really well for me.

You also want to make sure the spindle head is trammed-in as close as possible. Mine needed adjusting after delivery, it was out by several thousandths.
It was not difficult to tram my Stinger, just loosen a few bolts and tap in. I’m not sure how Cobra’s are set up.

Do you guys have any pics of your work to share?

Here's a pic of 10% step over that I ran a couple weeks ago.

The O flutes I have are on the long side. For bottom finishing, short and stubby will do better. Why are you using an O-flute? I would go with 2 or 3, bigger diameter and less rpm. Also, uncoated will be sharper so better finish. If you can't get mist, try to get an air blast pointed at it.
