What a thing of beauty and functionality. I've never seen an heirloom quality workbench, but that's it. Love the purpleheart.

Absolutely the best I have ever seen. I can only add "ditto" to everyone's comments.

Nice, I think I might put that in the living room and use my coffee table for glue ups...

I neglected to mention previously that I absolutely love the look of purple heart contrasting with something like Maple in a bench like this. It can be stunning and this bench is a good example of that. While a workbench is certainly a functional and important tool, "looking nice", too, can be inspiring for sure!

I agree that looks are important, which is why I didn't built the whole bench out of maple. In retrospect, walnut would have been easier to work with and I'd have ended up with less cracks and checks in the wood. But I like the contrast with purpleheart.

For the same reason, I like curly maple handles for my chisels and birdseye maple handles on my handsaws. There is something about using a tool that looks like a piece of art (and also functions well). Just brings more pleasure to the work. You spend more time looking after the tool (keeping it sharp, keeping the workbench from getting too banged up) which also gives better results in your work.

Awhile back I made the statement "almost anyone can make just about anything if they have the will, the time, and the tenacity". Now I'm not so sure. Your work is stunning Russell. If I may ask, how long did it take to make it?
