Default Stinger 1 Table plus instructions

There have been a few people asking about my Stinger I table, here are the files.

PLEASE post pictures of your table in this thread. It will be a great resource for anyone to find info and see different ideas and/or improvements to the original design.

Hi Mick,

How did you do the lower cuts of the leg pieces? Did you finish them out with a chisel? I'm trying to figure out how to run them through the table saw...thanks!

Default Stinger I Steel Table

Greetings, i figured i'd share my lessons on a steel table version here.
I realize you want people to contribute to your table design which is gorgeous.

Location: Houston, TX

Tool List:
Count 1 - 120v hobby mig welder
Count 1 - Portable Bandsaw (optional)
Count X - Angle Grinder & Cutoff wheels
Oil Based Primer
Enamel Spray Paint (Heavy Duty)

Material List:
Count 2 - 1/4 inch steel plate slightly larger than then machine footprint
Count 6 - Casters
Count 6 - Adjustable feet (to stabilize machine during operation)
Length X - 1/4 inch rectangular tube (based on the height of the table)
Length X - 1/4 angle for lateral support

Metal Justification:
While future projects will be wood, i wanted this metal cart to stay with the machine forever. I live in Houston which has numerous metal supply company's in the area. A little known secret is that some suppliers sell metal that doesn't meet certain grades or has some defect called "secondary steel". It requires a little more work because it may be rusty, but there is a great chemical i use called EvapoRust to get the bad stuff and elbow grease (grinding) the rest of it.

Leg Fabrication (angle grinder for dayz):
Fabricate four legs. Since a Stinger I only has four feet on the corners i opted for heavy duty legs with heavy duty lateral support. Use a cut off wheel or bandsaw to cut the rectangular tube to equal lengths. Use a flap disc to grind a 45deg bevel on all 8 ends (for welding).

Table Top, Bottom Shelf:
Approximate where you believe the stinger feet will land on the top or bottom and weld the legs to the top and bottom plate. Weld your correctly spec'd casters and tap/thread holes for the adjustable feet on the same top or bottom plate. The side you put wheels and feet on is now the bottom. Flip the table over wheels side down and cute a hole in the top about 4 to 5 inches from every edge. This will future proof your table if you need access underneath the tool for vacuum or adjustment operations.

Paint:
Use an Oil based primer for longer life on steel. I used a enamel top coat for better durability.

Nice cart Animade, definitely looks solid. I expect my SR-24 to be ready for delivery within about the next 3 weeks so I'll be building my cart soon too but from wood. I've wondered how much of the top/platform should be left open to provide access to the machine for maintenance. Is the entire opening that you made needed, or is access only required for a smaller area/section of the machine?

I cut out the top shelf open access port without any idea of the Stinger I hardware underneath. There is a decent amount of clearance below the machine without cutting away the portion i did, however, there are linear bearings and all the belts and such on the underside of the machine, that i'm glad i cut away as much as i did.

A quick update, i didn't use enough lateral support and i think i'll be adding more 45 degree supports on the cart.
