Having trouble getting a clean hole in melamine .is ther a feed rate or speed that works best ? I am using a bullet bit .

    Thanks

i use a 5mm bit from CMT, i get them from Mann tool in cola, mine are .25 shank and 5mm cut they are made for shelf pins,, i have also use .25 bits and .25 pins bt the 5mm are easier to find,, are you peck driling or one pass with a end mill as i am not sure what a bullet bit is?

I got very clean holes in melamine using a 2 flute straight bit. I used 1/4" because I did not have a good 5mm bit. I tried a 5mm drill bit and it did not give clean holes. Maybe a 5mm brad point bore would work the best. I think I saw them at USRoutertools.com.

        Thanks guys

Yes I am using a brad piont bit .I'll try the 1/4" cutter .I also have used 1/4" pins for years . I'm going to try slowing the feed in rate from 100 to 50 .

Thanks guys. Hey Jim sorry to hang up on you like that .Tony is hard to get hold of .really need him to walk me through a few things.

The issue may not be rpm but the plunge rate of speed you are going in to the material.

Tim slow this down a bit and see what you get.

I too like the .25" pins they hold better IMO

That 5mm bit is not the one I normally use. The one on usrouter tools is the one I have used. Southeast Tools was out of stock on them.

              Let me know.

you also have that 3/16" bit. You could have it plunge and do a small pocket hole. I Know how to do it in Aspire but not in Router CAD
