    Hi Everyone

I just tried to order a Stinger I. Unfortunately they were working with other customers. That is fine. But I thought I would ask some questions while I waited for them to call back.

Is it bad for the machine or the project if the bench it is on moves or shakes while the machine is working? Think caster wheels.

Does anyone have experience with the modular work table from Rockler Can it do the job of being a bench for the Stinger I?

I have seen several benches on the form. Yes I can make a bench myself, but I may not have the time to make one before delivery. But I would like to see any pictures or plans you are willing to post..

Welcome aboard . The more rock solid your machine/table the more accurate your work will be , you'd be surprised how much momentum these machines have when that gantry gets moving . I have casters on my Stinger I stand , its the CAMaster stand , the stand itself is plenty sturdy , but I don't like the casters even with locks , the machine moves , I am going to set blocks at the stands cross members to eliminate this. I would not recommend putting the Stinger I on that Rockler table , it may hold it , it may not . It doesn't look nearly as heavy as the CAMaster stand or the Mick Martin table many here have built for their Stingers .

I used these casters on the table for my Stinger 1. They are rock solid and others here at Camheads have used them as well. FOOTMASTER GDR-60F available at Amazon. Pricey but well worth it.

+1 on the Footmaster. I have them under Mick's table design and have no noticeable movement. I don't mean to sound harsh but don't go cheap on the table.

CAMaster put heavy duty casters on my MiniCobra when they built her. She wiggles around a bit, but I've had no issues with accuracy. I don't even have them locked in place. I HAVE to be able to move her around easily ( she weighs about 800 lbs)
I guess it depends upon what you're doing.

I plan on doing most of my designing on my the house computer. And using the computer for the stinger mostly for running the stinger. Do I need to buy a second copy of CUT 2D?

You are good to go. Vectric products can be installed on up to 3 computers, as long as they are used by one person.

Hanley - As Gary said you can install Vectric products on up to 3 machines.
As a alternative, I have a small in home network. I don't do any design on the CAMASTER computer but I can access my design computer through my CAMSTER computer and tweak the design save and then copy the file on to my CAMASTER computer from the design computer. I use MS remote connect to access each of the machines from other machines.

This is the easiest way for me to get the tap file to the CNC and prevent creating duplicate files in different places. I always do the design on one system and move it to another system to cut.

                    Thanks Gary and Pete

I currently do not have a way to talk directly between computers. I have planed on using a thumb drive to transfer files. That said the cnc computer will not have internet access as things are now. I know this must change.

I transfer with a thumb drive,, keep a file on desktop called cnc files, do all tool pathing at machine computer and run all tap files from the desktop file called TAP run files

I have been mostly without an internet connection on my garage machine computer for years, can be slightly inconvenient but not necessary at all. Like some others, I do most of my designing on another computer then transfer via thumb drive, open the file on the machine computer where I can tweak it and create the cut files.

I set up a wifi extender just for that purpose, worked for a while then it stopped, am not very motivated to find out why.

As far as tables, you want something very solid and well constructed, and you can get as elaborate or basic as you want. I made mine out of 4x4's, 2x4's and plywood, even using some from the shipping crate - Very sturdy, functional and lots of storage space in addition to its primary purpose of holding the machine.

I tend to overbuild things by force of habit from my job of union heavy construction.

                          The journey continues

I went up to Cartersville last Wednesday and picked up my new Stinger I. A big Thank You to Cody , Mike and All the guys at Camaster.

I followed Mick's plans, using double locking casters for the bench.

In the 1.5 hour drive home in the trailer there was no noticeable movement.

It is set up and running. No chips yet.
